More details: Topics receiving special emphasis will be the plants of the Colorado Plateau and growing winter-hardy cacti. Public demonstration gardens, previously featured in
To The Point and maintained by the Chinle Chapter, will be a highlight of your visit. Chinle Chapter members are actively involved in testing an increasing number of species for cold-hardiness and tolerance of the area's high desert climate.
A gateway to the vast Colorado Plateau, Grand Junction offers easy access to spectacular canyons and mountains. Within a half hour's drive you can find more than a dozen native cacti and succulents, including the Uinta Basin cactus,
Sclerocactus glaucus, and the spineless claret cup,
Echinocereus triglochidiatus v. inermis. Many additional species can be found within a day's drive. Colorado National Monument is only a few minutes from the hotel, and many other National Parks and Monuments are nearby, making Grand Junction a wonderful place to start your exploration of the high desert.
